It's approaching a year since Elizabeth left us. Her vivid memory lingers in my mind daily. I miss her deeply. A beautiful and most generous friend and mentor. I'll not forget you. Thank you.

I met her at ACOEM conferences and had the pleasure and the honor of learning from her vast knowledge and experiences. Like so many people I have known, I wish I had had more time shared with her. She left a mark on this planet and the people she touched. Her loss will be notable. She and her family will be in my prayers.

It was a privilege and pleasure to know Elizabeth and work with her as a Section Editor on the AMA Guides 6th edition. Elizabeth was incredibly bright and had boundless energy. She contributed in so many ways with her ability to synthesize complex medical information into its simple and significant common denominators. I am grateful for her help and I'm glad I had the opportunity to get to know and work with her.

Elizabeth Genovese crossed the paths of so many of us in AADEP. She was known nationwide an made numerous contributions as a healthcare professional through evidence based thinking and action, in providing good guidance and provacative thought. She loved life, medicine, pursuit of happiness for herself and others. Most of all, Elizabeth loved her children, family, and friends. She lived a robust life and blessed many. There is a whole generation of us who will always remember Elizabeth as professional woman and mother who sought challenges, made a difference, and provided for her loved ones, always with an amazing smile.

"Each person's passing diminishes me greatly, but in Elizabeth's passing it was personal and meaningful." I never met Elizabeth personally, but we only spoke over the phone...To me she was a beautiful human being that cared about people very deeply...I just regret that I never met her in person...I was sending her positive mental and spiritual encouragement as well as my healing knowledge...I have been away and I had wondered what happened to our conversations...Somehow I felt very strongly she had made the journey to the other side...I shall miss her as all of you who knew her... Carpe Diem...Life is too short...Live life and appreciate it every day and the people in your lives...Love and gratitude... Paul

With Elizabeth's passing I no longer have one of my best friends in life that I can talk, debate and plan how, in our own small ways we can improve the profession we love so much, even if only minimally. In Elizabeth's career, she leaves her contributions, which will long survive. Just before Elizabeth became ill we had planned to author a text together - that will have to wait a little while longer. Our friendship began during a chance meeting. We discovered that we were two physicians who were in medical marriages whose spouses' had died. Out of that experience our friendship grew. We also shared a passion for debating and challenging the status quo in medicine. I loved lecturing with Elizabeth and our medical evidence tete-a-tete's we had often. However, my happiest memory was the last dinner we shared just months ago. She let me give her small portions of some simple dishes that she could tolerate as we planned future courses. She then paid me her nicest compliment she ever gave me when she said "That was the best sweet potato I ever had! What's your recipe? Elizabeth was a true survivor, demonstrated best by her challenging everything her doctors recommended, which included some of the very Guidelines she had authored, to the point of rejecting her being told there was no longer hope months before her death. I thought I knew much about the chronic challenges in life and the pain of loss, but during Elizabeth's illness I became her student, as she taught me how to live life to it's fullest, as if each day may be your last day on Earth. Elizabeth's suffering is over, and for that I am happy. I mourn for her family's loss. Her children, who are the same age as mine, have had to mature very quickly in the past sixteen months. I mourn for her parents, who now are suffering the pain that I share with them - that we should not outlive our children. However, I celebrate Elizabeth's life. Beyond being an outstanding mother and physician, Elizabeth was a real mentsch - a real human being. Ron Zipper, D.O.

My condolences to Elizabeth's family. She touched the lives of so many and I was fortunate to have worked with her through AADEP several terms on the Board and most recently ACOEM when she gave so much energy and dedication to developing the Chronic Pain Guidelines. I considered her a colleague and friend and will miss her.

I had the luxury of working with Elizabeth on several different levels both within AADEP and ACOEM. I was fortunate to know her on a more personal level as well. The energy that she would bring to a lecture or professional activity was unparalleled. She had a unique inner-drive that was admired by many, and I will miss her dearly. May God hold her in the palm of his hand.

With vitality, Elizabeth taught us in many ways, but I will remember most the gracious attention to individuals she so willingly gave. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family. She will be sorely missed.

Elizabeth was one of the most congenial AADEP Fellows. She was an excellent instructor and one of the pioneers in the field of Disability Evaluation. My heart and prayers go out to her family.

I met Dr Genovese during the training sessions and have great respect for her knowledge and approach to medicine. To laugh and be friendly in the face of death takes huge courage and I hope that we all will find the same strength as she had. May God bless this wonderful woman.

SHE WAS A GREAT TEACHER WILL MISS HER

Her passing has given me a moment of truly deep sorrow for a brilliant mind now gone. However, I have to quote a movie here, and I think she would find it appropriate: "What we do in life, echos in eternity." She will be missed.

Elizabeth was one of the finest human beings that I have ever known. The world is a sadder place with her loss.
