Regular Membership Information
Who We Are
AADEP is an international, professional membership organization chartered in 1987 and incorporated in the state of Illinois in 1989. The founders of the Academy were dissatisfied and frustrated by the inadequate state of disability evaluation 17 years ago. They advocated for uniform disability assessment methods and the development of uniform standards for the determination of maximum medical improvement, the rating of impairment, and the determination of the ability to return to work. Their mission was education. The Academy changed in 2003 by opening membership categories to all professionals involved in the management, treatment, and evaluation of injured workers. The Academy is now a multi-specialty medical and professional organization with Medical Doctors, Doctors of Osteopathy, Doctors of Chiropractic, Nurses, Attorneys, Psychologists, Case Managers, and Therapists as Fellows and members.
What We Do
- Develop, augment and support defining of roles and understanding of the
responsibilities of physicians in the performance of the evaluation and management of the injured worker through Continuing Medical Education.
- Establish scientifically-based methods for assessment of disability and impairment.
- Design training in this specialized area of medical practice.
- Promote, attain and recognize competence in Disability Evaluation.
- Foster research in the field of Disability Evaluation.
- Promote scholarly and educational endeavors in the field of Disability Evaluation.
