AADEP Mission Statement
The mission of the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians is to advance the science of the prevention and management of disability, as well as, disability and impairment evaluation and to serve the members of our association by the following:
- Raise ethical standards of disability management
- Educate our members continuously in the management of the impaired
- Promulgate research in evidence based medicine as it relates to disability and disseminate new information that enhances the practice of disability management
- Educate referral sources in the advantages of utilizing AADEP fellows and members
- Provide certification for fellowship to recognize extraordinary educational achievement
- Encourage fair practices by advocating for persons served by the system to assure fair and accurate impairment assessment
- Provide a forum for networking of our members and Fellows for the purpose of furthering their education and improving their practices
- Develop a research agenda and coordinate research in the disability area in an effort to gain a scientific basis for disability management and evaluation
- Develop innovative methods to better evaluate functional loss
- Work to require that those who perform disability and impairment evaluations demonstrate facility at that activity
- Provide a mechanism for national certification of competence in disability management and impairment evaluation
